Work Projects – Bighorn Sheep Conservation – Texas Bighorn Society

Date:
March 13th and 14th, 2026

Where:
Black Gap Wild Management Area. It will be approximately a one-and-a-half-hour drive from the Parker Hotel in Alpine to BGWMA.

The Plan:
We will be building two mountain-top water guzzlers beginning Friday morning.

1. Stillwell Mountain Guzzler (Black Gap WMA)
2. Chalk Draw Ranch Guzzler

Accommodations:
Hotel Parker at Quarter Circle 7, located at 2800 US-90, Alpine, Tx,79830, 432-837-1100. The room rates are as follows:
• Queen Double Room $159.00 per night
• King Standard Room $179.00 per night
• King Suite $189.00 per night
• Casitas (2 Queens or 1 King) $250.00 per night

Use code TEXAS BIGHORN SOCIETY by phone reservation, a two-night minimum is required. Members with reservations MUST cancel three weeks in advance prior to stay or it will become non-refundable and non-cancelable. Space is VERY limited.

Food:
Meals will be provided beginning Friday morning though Saturday lunch. Saturday dinner will NOT be provided. Bring your own favorite beverages to enjoy. Clothing:
This is a remote desert area, and the possibilities of life-threatening injuries exist. Volunteers should be in good physical condition and comfortable hiking in rugged terrain. You must be able to hike down off the mountain if necessary. It is impossible to know what the weather will do. In years past we have had snow and we have had 90-degree heat. Come prepared- bring your hat, gloves, and sunscreen. Wear broken-in hiking boots.

What Do I Bring:
Bring plumbing tools, digging tools, drill batteries and whatever else you think we might be able to use.
