Work Project 2025

Location: Staging at Black Gap WMA

Date: March 14th and 15th, 2025

Overview:
Join the Texas Bighorn Society for our annual Work Project, an opportunity for hands-on conservation work benefiting desert bighorn sheep in Texas. This year, we’ll be constructing two water guzzlers in South Brewster County.

Participant Requirements:
Please note that participation in the Work Project is limited to TBS members only.

Schedule:
On Friday and Saturday mornings, TBS will provide breakfast at 5:30 am at the Hotel Parker at Quarter Circle 7(even if you are staying offsite), where you will collect a sack/box lunch and receive further instructions. The staging area will be at Black Gap WMA, which is approximately a 2-hour commute from Alpine.

What to Bring:
Bring along plumbing tools, digging tools, drill batteries, and any additional equipment you think might be useful for the project.

Accommodations:
For accommodations, we recommend Hotel Parker at Quarter Circle 7, offering a 15% discounted rate for TBS participants. When making your reservation, make sure to let them know you are with the Texas Bighorn Society group.  Please note that there is a two-night minimum.  Phone: 432-837-1100

Attire:
Given the remote desert location, participants should be in good physical condition and comfortable hiking in rugged terrain. Prepare for various weather conditions by wearing appropriate clothing and sturdy hiking boots.

Meals:
A sack/box lunch will be provided on both Friday and Saturday mornings at the Hotel Parker at Quarter Circle 7 during breakfast, which begins at 5:30 am. Dinner will be served both Friday and Saturday night at the Hotel Parker at Quarter Circle 7. Please keep in mind that our annual membership meeting will be held Friday at 7 pm at the hotel as well.

Registration:
To ensure an accurate headcount for meals, please register by March 3, 2025. You can register by calling/texting 321-525-6724, or emailing crisy@texasbighornsociety.org.

About the Work Projects:
The Texas Bighorn Society believes in combining hard work with conservation efforts. Each year, we host Work Projects where members gather in the West Texas Desert Mountains to build or repair guzzlers, providing vital water sources for bighorn sheep and other wildlife.
